How to book a Bhutan tour?

Recommend where to exchange money in Bhutan?

You can exchange money at the Bankthough it takes bit of a time. we recommend gettingexchanged at the airport’s Bank of Bhutan counter inside the terminal building. The other options are to exchange money at the hotel or some local shops in the town.Bank exchange rate Varies on different denominations of the foreign currency.

Can we use ATMs and credit cards in Bhutan?

ATMs are available in most of the towns. Many hotels and high-end handicraft shops accept card payment,though at times the payment gets declined due to the fluctuating network. So, we suggest carrying cash instead.

Can we get Bhutanese SIM cards?

You can buy sim cards either in phone outlets in town or at the airport. There is a small sim card counter just before you exit the terminal building. You can top up and subscribe to data packages of your choice.

What type of adapters and power sockets used in Bhutan?

In most of the hotels, you will find both the round pin and square pin plugs. You can buy converter in the town.

Is it safe to drink tap water in Bhutan?

Even though all the tap drinking water are sourced from the clean mountain, you are advised to drink bottled water only. Tap water can be used for washing and brushing your teeth. 

Is there any online check-in facility?

We suggest buying your flight tickets through the same company you booked your travel with. It will be convenient and they will be able to do online check-in for you.

You should choose left seats while flying in and right window when flying out of Bhutan. Flight from Kathmandu and Delhi is the most spectacular with views of mount Everest and other stunning peaks.

What happens if my passport gets stolen or lost in Bhutan?

Although Bhutan is a peaceful country with not many cases of theft you must take universal precaution. There are no embassy other than India, Bangladesh and Thai Consulate. Bhutan makes informal contact with the US government through the embassy in New Delhi. It is going to be a cumbersome process to get a new passport. 

What kind of water do we get on trek?

On trek, you are provided with thoroughly boiled  and cooled water. If you wish, you can add your treatment tablets but it is not necessary. It may not be safe to drink directly from the natural stream and tap water as your stomach may not be used the raw mountain water.

Are there mosquitoes in the places we are going?

Mosquitoes are endemic to southern part of Bhutan in tropical climate. However, starting few yeas ago, the upper northern valleys where we usually run our tours have also been seeing mosquitoes in the warmer months. If your travel is during the warmer months, please carry mosquito repellent creams. The hotel rooms will come with mosquito repellent fluids fitted to the power socket.

Are there stray dogs in Bhutan?

Yes, being a Buddhist country we never harm dogs – they are left around to roam freely and given leftover foods from nearby houses and restaurants. Having said that, it is not a major issue. We do suggest sleeping with a pair of ear-plugs to keep out the barking and help you sleep better at night especially for hotels around the town. 

Do we have to get any vaccinations prior traveling to Bhutan?

No, not at the moment. Although, the Centers for Disease control and prevention advices a host of injections, you are not required to get any specific injections for travel to Bhutan unless you come from disease infected area. However, you may consult your doctor before coming to Bhutan.
